Grafitti artists refer to themselves as “writers.” Jon One is one of the most famous. He came to Paris about twenty years ago to get away from East Harlem, the life, the cops … the drugs. He was one of the major influences on the emerging grafitti scene here. Today I don’t even think he’s doing what might be called grafitti – it really is abstract expressionism (I think anyway). And I like the guy.
And even if a lot of grafitti is ugly and destructive there are people who’ve turned it into an art. Meet some of them.
